Principal Animal Technician

Location: Cambridge
Salary: £26,432 to £31,983 plus benefits

The closing date for this position is Wednesday 14th March.

 On behalf of our client, we are looking a Principal Animal Technician to join a team of licensed animal technicians in a state of the art animal facility who are passionate about understanding the role of genetics in health and disease and a world leader in genomic revolution. The successful candidate will be responsible for a small team of technicians and will be expected to tackle various projects to support the research facility.

 Basic Requirements:

  • Hold a Home Office Personal Licence modules 1-3 and have experience of conducting procedures
  • IAT Membership or IAT Certificate with significant previous experience working in an animal facility
  • Previous experience of handling and sexing offspring
  • A teammate attitude with strong professional ethos alongside a flexible approach to work

 Desirable Skills:

  • Home Office Personal Licence module 4
  • Familiarity with Individually Ventilated Cages/Isolators
  • Previous experience with rodents and/or fish and frogs
  • Experience of contributing to and following SOPs
  • Experience, or willingness to train for NACWO

 Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervision and mentorship of a small team of technicians
  • Co-ordination of technical procedures in a specific area
  • Promoting and maintaining husbandry and welfare care for the animals within a defined area
  • Drive the implementation of standards and initiatives within your allocated area in support of the research facility managers
  • Weekend work will be required (approximately 1 weekend in 4).
