On behalf of our client, we are looking to recruit an Animal Technician to carry out animal husbandry and breeding tasks for small animals on a fixed term 6-month contract. Basic Requirements:

  • Previous experience within an animal facility would be ideal, although we will offer full training to the right person.
  • Cleaning and maintaining the animal rooms and associated areas to high standards.
  • Providing weekend/bank holiday cover as requested.
  • Following of all instruction and procedures for entry and exit from a barrier area.
  • Strong empathy with animals – this is at the heart of everything we do.
  • Cleaning and maintaining the equipment in the animal room as directed.
  • Good communication, organisation, and time management skills.
  • Understanding of the organisation and the work performed on site.
  • Conscientious and professional attitude.
  • Full driving licence is essential due to rural location.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Flexibility and a strong work ethic are essential to meet the needs of the business.
  • Must be a good team player and able to support colleagues and operations outside of your dedicated department, as reasonably required by the business.
  • Honest and respectful, and work in line with the Company values.
  • Providing exceptional care to our animals, carrying out animal husbandry including- Provision of adequate fresh food and water, Provision of environmental enrichment and Ensuring enclosures and cages are cleaned and maintained to the highest standards of hygiene and cleanliness.
  • Carrying out any other tasks or duties as may be required by the Group leader or supervisor from time to time.
  • Completion of the breeding records and any other recording forms.
  • Weaning, sexing, and re-caging of animals as directed by the technician in charge or Group.

Due to the biosecurity restrictions, unfortunately our client cannot employ anyone that owns or comes into regular contact with rabbits, mice, rats, guinea pigs or ferrets.
