We are looking to recruit a Cleaning Technician to work as part of our small team in a scientific establishment south of Edinburgh. Once fully trained, the successful applicant will work to an organised schedule and will be responsible for the quality of the cleaning in their allocated areas.

These areas could contain a combination of laboratories and other clean scientific environments.

The post holder will sometimes be required to operate mechanical equipment which involves light lifting, and there is a requirement to maintain accurate cleaning records. The post holder will be responsible for day-to-day care of the equipment and reporting any faults or damage.

This is an ongoing permanent position working 36 hours per week, Monday – Saturday 6am – Midday. Own transport may be needed due to the location and start time.

Basic Requirements:

  • Have a can-do mentality.
  • Be flexible and able to adapt to changing work environments, workloads and timetables.
  • Be reliable, professional, customer friendly and amenable.
  • Be a good communicator and work as part of a team and alone when required.
  • GCSE or equivalent level of literacy.
  • Be able to document and maintain records accurately.
  • Experience cleaning in an industry, hospital or academic based environment would be an advantage but is not essential.
  • Experience and knowledge of manual handling techniques is desirable.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining cleanliness of laboratories and working areas as specified by the client and other specialist cleaning as required.
  • Cleaning laboratories, corridors and maintaining changing/locker areas.
  • Use and day to day care of autoclaves, bottle washers and other equipment after full training.
  • Working safely and to high quality.
  • Proactively engaging with client personnel.
  • Following all clean entry procedures correctly and diligently and reporting any issues.
  • Frequent changing of PPE is required in some areas.
