Deputy Team Manager/Senior Technician

On behalf of our client, we are looking for a Deputy Team Manager to assist with the planning of day-to-day work of the Technician Team, supporting multiple clients in veterinary medicine, feed additives and safety studies and delivering animal husbandry and study procedures within a livestock facility. The successful candidate will carry out a range of husbandry and study tasks, applying a high level of expertise to the welfare of farm animals.

Basic Requirements:

  • Hold a Home Office Personal Licence, or have experience of working on Home Office regulated studies
  • Familiar with livestock biosecurity procedures
  • Strong husbandry skills with farm animals including cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, poultry and horses
  • Previous experience operating farm machinery is desirable
  • Experience with team management
  • Full UK Driving Licence

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of the Technician Team, carrying out a wide range of practical husbandry and study tasks
  • Deputise for the Technician Team Manager, assisting with the planning and managing of day-to-day work in the unit
  • Apply a high level of animal husbandry knowledge to the care and welfare of all farm animals, collecting samples and data
  • Mentor staff to maintain technical standards of animal husbandry and study procedures
  • Maintain a close working relationship with all managers to understand the delivery needs of studies
  • Assist the Technician Team Manager to plan work rotas for effective and efficient staffing solutions
  • Be a knowledgeable point of contact for staff and external agencies on animal husbandry and welfare, controlled veterinary drugs, and health and safety
  • Be flexible, adaptable, able to work off site, and at weekends and unsociable hours if required
