Animal Technician

Location: Leicestershire
Salary: £16,300

On behalf of our client, we are looking to recruit an Animal Technician to provide support for day-to-day animal husbandry, care and welfare. The successful candidate will also be required to carry out other duties to support the maintenance of the animal facility.

Please note that due to the rural location and in the absence of suitable public transport links, having your own transport is essential.

Basic Requirements:

  • Animal Care or Animal Management qualification at Level 2 or higher
  • A minimum of 3 GCSE’s at grade C or higher, including Maths, Science and English
  • Previous experience of working with and handling animals
  • The ability to learn and have empathy with the animals and the capability to develop the requisite skills
  • IT skills of a good standard.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Providing food, water and bedding to the animals
  • Changing cages and associated equipment
  • Performing cleaning duties within the animal rooms and facility
  • Performing some surgery and post-operative care as directed
  • Ensuring that animal husbandry and procedural records are kept up to date and accurate on the in-house computer database system
  • Coordinating with vendors and supervisors on operational, administrative and technical responsibilities
  • Overseeing procurement of animals and supplies, preventive maintenance of facility equipment.

Due to the biosecurity restrictions, unfortunately our client cannot employ anyone that owns or comes into regular contact with rabbits, mice, rats, guinea pigs or ferrets.
