Director of Biological Services

We are seeking to recruit an individual with an exceptional understanding of the requirements of a successful laboratory animal resource, to direct, promote and deliver a world-class, cost-efficient, user-focused service. The Director will be responsible for acting as UCL’s Establishment Licence Holder.

The role will include ensuring that all Biological Services facilities at UCL comply with or exceed current and future guidelines and to lead, manage and develop the facilities under the legal framework. It is also essential that all processes and authorities are in place to ensure the research community can access all available resources. An expert working knowledge of The Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act and other relevant legislation relating to the use of laboratory animals is vital.

The successful individual will possess first-class leadership and interpersonal skills, substantial experience in a research environment, strategic planning and implementation skills, and the ability to command the confidence of the research community in order to plan and achieve a new strategic vision for the facility.

Proven experience within a range of research environments, including the management of financial and human resources is essential. Candidates should hold a degree or post-graduate qualification in a relevant biological science, (or equivalent professional qualification), in addition to substantial experience of leading, motivating and developing staff.
