On behalf of our client, we are looking to recruit a Licensed Animal Technician to join a team in South London to provide technical support to researchers and ensure high levels of animal care and welfare. The successful candidate will ideally have experience conducting multiple technical procedures with rodents and have experience maintaining breeding colonies.
- IAT Level 2, or equivalent qualifications
- Hold a Home Office Personal Licence
- Experience working in a biological research unit
- Previous experience conducting licensed procedures with rodents is desirable
- Knowledge of breeding techniques, anaesthesia, and removal of bodily fluids is desirable
- Proven database and record keeping skills
Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for routine husbandry and associated tasks in the BRF, including specialised housing conditions
- Assist with ongoing rodent breeding programs and maintaining accurate records
- After appropriate training, undertake authorised regulated procedures as requested by senior staff and maintain records of such procedures
- Daily animal husbandry duties including feeding, watering, and cleaning duties
- Monitor animal health and reports anomalies as required
- Assist with rederivation and health screening programmes as required
- Undertake training as required to ensure knowledge and skills are up to date and guarantee CPD requirements are met
- Operate specialist machinery and sterilise equipment, ensuring there are no contaminants that might impact on the welfare of animals
- Any other duties as required which are appropriate to the grade.
